After an extensive renovation in 2007, Cataraqui Pet Grooming became Kingston’s premier pet spa: Are You A Dirty Dog? The salon provides unsurpassed service in a caring, professional environment. Located in Cataraqui Pet Centre, between Urban Paws and Cataraqui Pet Hospital the salon complements the pet services we provide.
Groomers Erika, Kaitlyn, and Jenn, and Grooming Assistants Rikki and Ashley, are committed to meeting the individualized needs of the guests at our salon. Dogs enjoy the stress-minimizing, cage-free environment, and socialize before and after their appointment, while cats are housed separately.
Jenn is originally from the Barrie area, where she successfully ran a fast-paced salon with high quality, excellent customer service for ten years. She ran her own private salon for four years in the Petawawa area before moving to Kingston. She has a degree in Biochemistry and a diploma as a Veterinary Technician. She has two beautiful children and two beautiful dogs, an Affenpinscher named Aubrey and a Boston Pug mix named Koi. She has groomed a number of dogs and cats over the years and made many friends with both pets and their owners, and she is excited to be starting a new adventure with Are You a Dirty Dog? in hope of building more amazing relationships. Jenn will also be looking after clients at our second location, Dirty Dog 2, in Amherstview.
Erika is committed to the idea that a trip to the groomer should be a positive experience: for both the owner, and the member of their family they are entrusting with her. She is highly proficient in breed standard clips and the art of hand-scissoring, and particularly enjoys customizing styles to fit her client's unique tastes and lifestyles. She is also trained to groom cats in lion clips, lynx clips, and shave downs. Erika began her grooming career in 2012 at PetSmart, where she quickly built up a loyal clientele as a result of her commitment to quality work. Since then, she has been dedicated to learning as much as possible about the art of grooming, and spends much of her time studying new grooming techniques and styles. In 2014, Erika left PetSmart to pursue grooming on an in-home and house-call basis with animals that benefited from a quiet, one-on-one atmosphere. During this time, she discovered that she missed the experience of working alongside other groomers, as well as the more creative aspect of grooming, and in 2015 she became part of the Dirty Dog. Now a Certified Intermediate Stylist Technician, Erika continues to expand her knowledge and skill set in the grooming world by attending grooming shows and conventions, staying connected to other stylists, and immersing herself in learning material as it comes out. She is a registered member of the Canadian Professional Pet Stylists Association, which is the only federally registered non-profit certifying organization for groomers in Canada.
From a very young age, Rikki always felt a deep and special connection with animals of all shapes and sizes. Raised on a small farm in rural Selby, it did not take her long to realize that she could see no other future than one that was based around the creatures that had taught her so much responsibility and respect: dogs. In 2010, Rikki moved to Kingston to pursue an opportunity at a local dog kennel where she spent 2 years sharpening her canine behaviour and grooming skills. During her time, Rikki found the most pleasure in the one-on-one time she spent bathing, brushing, and attending to the grooming needs of the dogs in her care. It was this that made her realize, that though she did enjoy being a kennel attendant, her true passion lay in grooming. In the spring of 2012, after completing schooling, Rikki applied for an open position at Dirty Dog, and it was not long before she found herself part of an amazing team. Ever since, Rikki has been consistently pushing to expand her knowledge and skills; aiming for an end goal of becoming a certified Professional Pet Stylist.
I discovered my love of grooming in early 2014 when I started as a bather/brusher. I quickly began to train as a pet stylist. Over the past 4 years I have built strong relationships with a growing clientele. I have experience in traditional breed standard clips, puppy introductory clips, and have a passion for creative grooming styles. I have managed a salon of 8 groomers and was responsible to train numerous stylists in all areas of grooming and dog care. I continually research techniques and products in this ever-growing industry to expand my knowledge. Over the years I have enjoyed meeting new clients and their furry family members. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow with the Dirty Dog team.
Hello, fellow pet lovers. I'm Ashley, a grooming assistant at Are You A Dirty Dog. Since joining the pet grooming salon team in August of 2017, I have devoted myself to the cleanliness and well-being of our furry clients. After two years of volunteering at a vet hospital, I discovered my passion for the field of grooming, and as I enjoy my current position, I also look forward to becoming a pet stylist in the future.
